THE MEROVINGIAN DYNASTY

Phoenix Symbol_The Merovingians.png

Bearer of the flame ⁘ Keeper of the flame ⁘ With the flame

WITH THE FLAME: AT HARMONY WITH FIRE

KEEPER OF THE FLAME: SUSTAINS FIRE

BEARER OF THE FLAME: ALL WILL BURN

The Merovingians possess an extremely rare trait among humans, characterized by a natural symbiosis with fire. Earth, Wind, and Water created mankind; however, Fire claims its responsibility for the advancement of humanity. Fire, like its human carriers, is a pivotal yet unstable element. As such, there are very few of them.

All carriers of the Trait are distant relatives of a singular bloodline long separated by conflict and hardship. The Fireborne, known for their contentious nature, were exiled to the farthest reaches of the north before migrating to Northern Germania and eventually settling in Gaul, which is now modern-day France.

With the flame comes protection, comfort, and advancement, while Keepers sustain its power. Yet, Bearers, when crossed, can divide and consume, burning all who dare to cross them.

With the Flame:

Immune to being consumed by flame, rather, those who are with the flame are at one with it.

Keeper of the Flame:

Carries the essence of the Fireborne lineage. Keepers can generate and are conduits to the flame.

Bearers of the Flame:

The most powerful, and unfortunately, due to the sheer scope of their power, it has too often proven most ominous to the enraged who are unleashed to do as they please… and abuse this power, consuming all that fall prey to its path.

HISTORICAL

KING CHLODIO

The ruling king of the Salian Franks and the founder of the namesake Merovingian Dynasty. Rebelled against Rome in the early 400s A.D., occupying territory as far south as the Somme River.

MÉROVÉE / MEROVECH

The only son of Mariwig I. Mérovée, or Merovech, is the semi-legendary namesake of the Merovingian dynasty, a lineage of Frankish kings. Despite uncertainty surrounding his historical accuracy, tradition portrays him as a 5th-century leader of the Salian Franks. He is famous, though possibly apocryphally, said to have fought alongside Roman general Aetius against Attila the Hun at the Battle of the Catalaunian Plains in 451 CE. His grandson, Clovis I, would later truly establish the Frankish kingdom.

MEIRA MEROVECH

Born around 418 A.D., Merovech’s third wife was married off at seventeen. Historians believe she was born in modern-day Sweden.

LICINIA ,EUDOXIA, MEROVECH

Historical: Born to a Frankish (modern-day France) general in the Roman army, she married Emperor Arcadius. Despite her husband's weak rule, Eudoxia wielded considerable power at court and proclaimed Augusta in 400 CE, solidifying her status and influence over political and religious affairs in the Eastern Empire.

Fictional: The eldest and favored daughter of Merovech and only child of Merovech’s greatest love. Married Arcadius of Rome and ascended to the throne as Empress of the Eastern Roman Empire.

YALENA MEROVECH

Fictional Character: Yalena’s mother, Mira, a Krievija, served as a handmaiden to Merovech’s first bride. Soon after the queen’s death, Mira and Mariwig wed. Mira gave birth to their only child, Yalena, but never fully gained acceptance as a Merovech.
